It's Still Lent And We Still Need To Pray

Perhaps now that the original excitement we had when the 40 Days for Life Lent campaign started is over we are all finding it harder. There are still many days ahead and maybe you are finding it daunting, however just consider for a moment how much prayer and penance is being offered up at the Brixton vigil alone, at the end of the 40 days there will have been 480 hours of prayer and penance. Actually double that as there is always at least 2 people attending the vigil. Can you imagine how much prayer is then said all over the world as these campaigns take place. Remember we have God with us, it’s just a case of trusting him with the results.

The Prayer Vigil in Brixton will run for 12 hours a day, 8am to 8pm, seven days a week from Ash Wednesday until Palm Sunday. If you could spare an hour or more to come and pray with us, it would be of great help. The vigil takes place at the corner of Brixton Water Lane, London, SW2 5BJ. Preaching the Gospel of Life through Prayerful Witness

At the 40 Days for Life vigil in Brixton on Thursday one of our vigil volunteers had a positive interaction with a passer-by on the street. He was a young man who had noticed our volunteers standing quietly in prayer and had stopped to ask what they were doing and why. He reacted so positively to the explanation that he was given that the vigil volunteers invited him to join them in prayer. They said the Our Father together, he explained that he was non-denominational, he then offered up a lovely prayer asking God to bless us and our work, it was beautifully sincere and heartfelt. That moment really cheered up our volunteers. This blessed moment helps remind us why we stand at these vigils in the first place. Unexpected conversations, shared prayers with strangers are all powerful signs of hope. We are a reminder to the world that the unborn child is human and that their lives matter.

Your Presence at the 40 Days for Life Pro-Life Vigil Matters!

This Lent we have a 40 Days for Life campaign in Brixton, London. 40 Days for Life is a global movement to end abortion through prayer, fasting and peaceful prayer vigils for 40 days held outside or near abortion clinics. At these vigils at least two people will always attend; one hands out leaflets offering help to mothers while the other prays. People unite all over the world in prayer during this time and countless lives are saved. With the current number of abortions sky high, it is time for us all to take action and be involved in the end of abortion in this country and the whole world. Attending a prayer vigil is a public witness to show we believe every human life has value.

Who knows, you may be the reason a mother chooses life for her baby; your presence matters more than you may ever see.

Just remember you are not alone. People are attending 40 Days for Life vigils worldwide and we are united to them in prayer. It is not meant to be easy, but we do it for the unborn babies, mothers and fathers. Let us ask God to close the abortion clinic in Brixton this Lent, for with God nothing is impossible - Luke 1:37.

Lenten Almsgiving: Don't Make A Mother and Baby Fast Everyday!

Choosing what to give alms to this Lent?

Why not give what you can each Friday in Lent to help Good Counsel feed destitute Mothers and Babies?

We spend £40,000 per year on feeding Mothers. And we give this help when a Mother has no wage, no right to benefits and no other means of support.

Some of our Mothers were sleeping on buses or on the street as late as 7 months into their pregnancies.

Many others considered abortion because of their devastating poverty when their baby's father chose not to support them in having their baby.
Those readers who have been pregnant and who know the awful hunger pangs you can endure in pregnancy even when you have plenty to eat will understand how terrible real hunger in pregnancy can be!

We always deliver the help that we promise an expectant Mother. We don't provide luxuries, but we do provide the basics. But at the moment funds are at an all time low. That's why we need your support especially during Lent. These women that we support witness to other women who are considering abortion - showing that there is real hope and real help for those in poverty who continue their pregnancies.

What does it cost?

It costs us £35 to feed an new Mother for 1 week.

It costs us £25 to feed an expectant Mother for 1 week.

It costs £15 to pay for baby milk each week when a Mother cannot breastfeed.

It costs us £7 a week to buy nappies for a baby.

It costs about £3.60 a day to feed an expectant Mother.

Can you donate any of these amounts weekly through Lent as part of your Lenten almsgiving?
