Ecce ancilla Domini.
Fiat mihi secundum verbum tuum. (Ave Maria)

Et Verbum caro factum est.
Et habitavit in nobis. (Ave Maria)
Ora pro nobis, sancta Dei Genitrix.
Ut digni efficiamur promissionibus Christi. (Oremus)

Our Lady's Promise to End Abortion -Join Our Total Consecration to Mary Now

"In the end my Immaculate Heart will triumph", Our Lady predicted at Fatima. Therefore we can be assured that is is true. Yet until that triumph is complete, it is clear that the closest that we can come personally, in our families, and as a Church, to the peace we can expect from the arrival of her heart's triumph is to live out her requests at Fatima.
Much ink has already been used in the various arguments about whether or not Russia has been consecrated to Our Lady. I shall not enter that debate here, but what I will say is that rather than point the finger at what someone else has or hasn't done I should examine the way I personally fulfill Our Lady's requests.
"When you see a night illuminated by an unknown light, know that it is the great sign that God gives you that He is going to punish the world by means of war, hunger and persecution of the Church and the Holy Father. To prevent it, I shall come to ask for the Consecration of Russia to my Immaculate Heart and the Communion of reparation on the First Saturdays. If people attend to my requests, Russia will be converted and the world will have peace. If not, Russia will spread its errors throughout the world, fomenting wars and persecutions of the Church. The good will be martyred, the Holy Father will have much to suffer and various nations will be annihilated..." (source "Fatima: The Great Sign" by Francis Johnston. My emphasis added in bold.)
Sr Lucia saw a light in the night sky in 1938, on 25th January in April the same year Germany invaded and took control of Austria, the following year the Second World War broke out. We tend not to see communism as much of an influence on the Western world today. Yet the roots of the anti-God and specifically anti-Catholic secularist movement - which came to the fore when the Pope visited the UK recently for example - has it's roots in the same soil as communism. The annihilation of nations happens nowhere with such huge numbers and such a relentless appetite as in abortion. As a Counsellor I know only too well that atheism - or the kind of pratical atheism which sadly many nominal Catholics live - results in an inability to recognise the infinitely precious and irreplaceable nature of the unborn child.
The fact remains then, that to prevent the annihilation of various nations Our blessed Mother requests not just the Consecration of Russia to her Immaculate Heart, but also the Communion of reparation on the First Saturdays.
Do I make the first five Saturdays? Do I offer a total Consecration of myself and my life to Jesus, through Mary? And if not then I must realise that I am part of the cause of the annihilation of nations, rather than the solution.
Whatever else I do as a Catholic, whatever pious works and practices, I must consider that if the Blessed Mother was sent to earth to warn me and my fellow Catholics, and the world as a whole, and to offer us a solution, I should not be so arrogant - or even more likely -so lazy - as to fail to implement any part of it that I can.
Join us in making the Total Consecration of Our Lives to Jesus, through Mary. Read about the Consecration and the 30 Day preparation period by following this link . You can find all the readings and preparatory prayers on that site too (If you prefer it in book form you can obtain it in book form from Montfort Press. 28, Burbo Bank Rd, Liverpool, Merseyside L23 6TH. Pro-Life Tube Ads Are Up

Well they're up. Some of our posters have already appeared in Central London tube stations. Please pray that they are successful in attracting many women who may otherwise consider aborting their children.

Please pray also that we may raise the funds to continue the campaign if it is successful. And in the meanwhile, let's enjoy seeing Our Blessed Mother's image in tube stations.

It was quite a battle getting them up, but that's a story for another day. If you bump into one of our posters on your travels, ask Our Lady of the Wayside to prepare the hearts and minds of people in this country for the visit of the Vicar of Christ and to end the practise of abortion and euthanasia in our land.

God bless You.

The Assumption - She Will Crush the serpent's Head.

On August 15th, we have a great Marian feast in the Church's calender, The Assumption of Our Lady.

"A great sign appeared in heaven, a woman, adorned with the sun, standing on the moon, and with the twelve stars on her head for a crown".

The first reading for the Mass on this day is from the Apocalypse. It strikes me for it's relevance for the pro-life cause. It describes a vision of a woman who is "pregnant and in labour and crying aloud with the pangs of childbirth", and the dragon who tries to eat the male child as soon as the woman gives birth.

The devil, the 'father of lies', hates all of God's creation, and attempts to destroy God's plan of creation, by attacking primarily the woman, and "the fruit of her womb". The sanctity of human life from the moment of conception is so under attack today through the evils of abortion and contraception. Many people today are blind to these evils. We must not lose hope, but trust in God's infinite mercy. God will destroy the lies surrounding abortion and contraception, through his Beloved Mother, the Virgin Mary. She is the new Eve, who "will crush the serpent's head", and who promised to the children at Fatima that "Her Immaculate Heart would triumph".

God has already won the Victory through His death on the cross and His defeat of death through His Resurrection. Let's take great courage from this reading, that God will destroy death forever through His Mother, and abortion and contraception will disappear from the world, because Our Lady will intercede and prevent the devil from causing anymore harm to God's children.

I invite you to entrust yourselves totally to Our Lord through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, so that we can be instruments for God's light and love to shine through us, enabling God to work miracles and replace our culture of death will a culture of Life.

On the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Friday 11th June marked the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and was also the day chosen by Pope Benedict to end the Year for Priests.
The Sacred Heart of Jesus embodies the heart of our Catholic faith. God shared our humanity in His Son, Jesus Christ. Our Lord suffered enormously during His earthly life. He took on our wounds and sins upon Himself, whilst remaining sinless, and died a most horrendous barbaric death on the cross, and rose from death three days later.

We are all sinners, wounded and broken, and yet Our Lord's death on the cross, and His defeat of death through His Resurrection, shows us His infinite love for us. God desires above all that we trust in His love and mercy for us, that despite our brokeness, our sins and wounds, inflicted by others and by ourselves, He will purify us and save us.

Confession, or also known as the Sacrament of Reconciliation is an invitation for us all to confess our brokeness, our sins and above all our inability to strive for holiness alone. Through confession, God embraces us with His infinite mercy. God loves us so much and His love is unconditional. No sin is to big for Him, even the sin of abortion. God takes away all feelings of guilt, hurt, betrayal, shame and fear, through this wonderful Sacrament. The slate is wiped clean, though our sins be as scarlet they shall be whiter than snow.

As it said in the Communion Rite on the Feast of the Sacred Heart:

"The Lord says: If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me: whoever believes in me, let him drink, streams of living water shall flow out from within him. " (John 7: 37-38)

Let us take great courage and hope from Our Lord's words. He loves us so much. His Sacred Heart desires all of us to be saved. Our mother, whose feast day was Saturday 12th June, the "Immaculate Heart of Mary", will draw us ever closer to her Sons Sacred Heart so that we will have "streams of living water flowing from within us" and Our Lord through his Holy Spirit will draw all of mankind to Himself.

Pro-Life Fruit on Our Lady's Feast Day

I remember it was The Feast of the Immaculate Conception and I had just come out of Mass and completed the First Five Saturdays Devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. I was on my way to pray at the local abortuary as I usually do on Saturday mornings, to also hand out our pro-life leaflets as a member of The Helpers of God’s Precious Infants and to try and speak to the women entering the abortuary to prevent them from killing their unborn children.
I had been attending the prayer vigil for over a year and although there had been signs of women turning around I had not noticed a definite turnaround during my time there. Still I was sure in my heart that our presence at the clinic was vital and that our sacrifices and prayers were being answered although I could not see the results.
I was thinking to myself that I had to try harder and make more effort to speak to the women even though they usually had no time to stop and were almost rushing past me. I got one young lady’s attention after a while and began talking to her for a very long time and really thought she was going to turn around, so you can imagine how sad and disappointed I was when she went ahead through the entrance of the abortion clinic after listening and discussing things with me for about an hour. I had told her about the help she could have if she chose life for her child and she had declined.
Its very easy to become despondent and down after such an incident and our time there was coming to an end that day and I felt I had tried so hard to talk this lady out of having the abortion. I began walking over to the rest of the group on the prayer vigil as it was almost time to finish up. I was speaking to my friends there when suddenly I noticed another young lady approaching the abortuary and another of our friends still praying near the entrance. I wasn’t expecting her to stop and listen to me but to my surprise after her seeing the people still praying and hearing about the help she told me that her boyfriend did not want her to go ahead with the abortion, that she believed in God and went to church and that she wanted to know more about our help. “You see I've got one child already” she told me.

Then I remembered in the past how I once felt after having my first child and how I never wanted more children at that time, when a relative suddenly woke me up from my selfishness by saying “Your child is going to grow up lonely you know, don’t you think he would like a little a brother or sister to keep him company?” It suddenly dawned on me at that time that he was right and I have always been grateful to him, and because of what he said I did decide to try for another child and thanks be to God we have a second son today. I used the same lines to the lady I was speaking to and added “I'm sure they will be the best of friends”. At that point she brushed away some tears from her eyes and nodded. She also told me she was studying and trying to make a career so I went through the help leaflet with her and I made an appointment at our Centre that afternoon. I brought her to the centre myself to make sure she got there and did not change her mind. All the way thereI kept thinking how precious she and her baby were and that I was afraid of losing her so I just kept talking to her until we got to the Centre.
Thankfully, today, she is very grateful for our help and now has two little girls who play very happily together.
All praise and thanks to God, and to Our Lady for her intercession on her special Feast Day.

Mary's Prayers

Why pray the rosary outside abortuaries?...‘You’d be a lot more effective if you dropped using the pictures of the Virgin Mary and didn’t, you know,...move those beads around in your hand’
the lady said and gave me a sympathetic look.

I was standing outside a central London abortuary with a large poster of Our Lady of Guadalupe at my side, and white rosary beads in my hands. It was an unusually quiet day at the clinic, and no one had gone in during the past 45 minutes.
I gave her a friendly smile in return, and said, ‘thank you for your thought on the matter’.

I said ‘thank you’ because I could see that this blond lady had made this comment with good intentions.
‘Well, we’re Catholics, we believe that we’re invoking the Virgin Mary’s help.’
She sighed silently and said, ‘But how?...why do you need to get the Virgin’s help?...’
‘We have two choices when we are here, either we pray, which for us as Catholics includes seeking the Virgin Mary’s intercession, or we do not pray.' I said, and she raised her eyebrow but listened carefully.
I continued, ‘We’ve chosen to pray for the pregnant women, because we believe that even if we make no contact with them, that winning support from Heaven for them is important. Also, a lot of the pregnant ladies ask for a rosary to put in their purse or wear around their necks. When we do get to speak to them, some of them are Catholics and recognise the prayers, others know that by praying for them we mean well, and then others are delighted to have someone to offer them practical help.’

I showed her our leaflets and explained how we can help women.

‘Here’s a leaflet for you.’ I said, and she exclaimed ‘No, no, I’m not pregnant! I’m pushing sixty, I’m past my time for all that.’
‘Oh yes, but if you know of anyone who is pregnant and going through a bad patch, you might like to give it to them.’
‘Oh yeah, I suppose that’s an idea. It’s just that a lot of my friends have come to places just like this for terminations, and they’ve spent the rest of their lives mulling over what might have been had they kept it.’ She sighed heavily.

‘I just wonder if they would have stopped to talk to you had they seen the picture of the Virgin Mary.’

She opened up and told me the situations that her friends had been in, and how twenty, thirty, even forty years later she still was comforting them after their abortions. ‘They needed care, and none of us knew what to do...’
‘Well our praying here is a sign that we care. We may not know what’s going on in their lives until we speak with them, but praying here is a way of caring for everyone involved, primarily the pregnant lady, because the Virgin Mary herself was perplexed on finding out that she was pregnant. And we back up our prayers with action, we give appropriate help.’
I had to be very gentle at this next point, and delicately explained how we help girls who are going through the same predicaments as her friends were going through in the 70's and 80's.
‘Yeah, I grant you that’s impressive...you do the good works bit as well. And the praying - you’re doing what you believe in – I respect that - really I do.’
‘When I leave here, I’ll light a candle for you and say some for you.’ I replied.
To my surprise, she gave a bright smile to this, and said ‘thank you, I’m not religious, but that’s awfully kind of you.’
Monsignor Reilly always encourages pro-lifers outside the clinics to use ‘the intercessory power of the Mother of God’, that we cannot fight this battle alone, but need dynamic spiritual weaponry.

Total Consecration to Jesus, Through Mary

NOVENA PRAYER

Great Apostle and son of Our Lady, St. Louis de Montfort, your only desire was to set aflame the world with the love of Jesus through Mary. We implore you to obtain for us a perfect and constant devotion to Mary that we may participate in the faith, hope, and charity of Our Lady and that we may receive the favor we ask of you in this novena....(mention your petition).

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be
St. Louis Marie Grignon de Montfort... pray for us (3x)

As an organisation consecrated to Jesus through Our Blessed Lady, we have learned to the inestimable value of the Total Consecration to Mary which was promoted by St Louis Marie de Montfort, whose Feast Day is today. St Louis Marie de Montfort is credited with evangelising the Vendee and preparing the people there for the persecutions that would come to their descendants a century later.

Many of our staff, volunteers and supporters count the making of the Act of Total Consecration to Mary as a turning point in their lives. So we are giving you some links to websites where you can find the Act of Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary if you would like to make it.

He drew up a period of preparation to help souls prepare for making this consecration. You can find all the readings and prayers for each of the 33 days of Preparation here:

Maria Stops Abortion, So Let's Dare to Hope and Pray it Ends Soon.

What a wonderful Mother we have! Mary, our heavenly Mother who helps us to interpret the signs which her spouse, the Holy Spirit, places along the path of our life, so Pope John Paul II told us. It is an honour for me to open the Good Counsel Network blog on this Marian Feast of Our Lady of Good Counsel.
On this Feast, when all hope of ending abortion in the UK seems lost, we invite you to HOPE! Every day we speak to women who are considering or even planning to abort an “unplanned” or even (so-called) “unwanted” baby. We invite, pray for, dare and even tempt them to HOPE that there is a place for their baby in their life. Believing as we do that the vocation (i.e. the meaning of her life) of a pregnant woman is to be a Mother, we also believe that God will provide what she needs to fulfil this mission. We believe that, ultimately, fulfilling this mission will bring her true joy and peace. We also know that God has called those of us who are involved in the work of The Good Counsel Network to be one route for women in crisis to find real practical help, friendship and moral support.
Forty two years ago, when Catholics here celebrated this Marian Feast, 26th April 1968, they were doing so for the last time in a country where abortions could not legally take place. From 27th April that year, the 1967 Abortion Act came into force and abortions started to be performed “legally” (if one can ever say “legal” about anything so opposed to God’s law and all that is just).
42 years of political campaigning and caring support of pregnant women as well as of those who have suffered an abortion followed. Currently, few campaigners even HOPE to see the abortion law overturned in our lifetimes. But if we have no HOPE, we have nothing to offer those in despair - which is everyone who (as well as every society which) thinks abortion is a solution to a crisis pregnancy.
But let our HOPE be built on a sure foundation; trust in God firstly of course, but also a firm commitment to prayer and fasting. Together prayer and fasting cause even demons to flee. Let's show others that we really do believe that Mary will be the route that Jesus will take to end abortion forever, hence our title; Maria Stops Abortion.
As one of the original members of the Good Counsel Network here in London, and an Advisor to Pregnant Women in our London Centre for 13 years now, I thank all our praying supporters, workers, volunteers and benefactors for all you do, and for the privilege of working with you for Jesus, through Mary.
